the alien is a Fentarus - my original species. They are a race of sentient amphibians. Their distinctive features included colorful skin pattern and marking, which varied in pigment from individual to individual
This is literally a Salarian with a different crest and eyes... the nose at the top of the head is even copied. This is clearly not an original idea...
well, rip-off, art thief, or inspired...u can call it whatever u want but thing like this happen mos of the time to amateur artist like me and many others. Actually,do u ever draw? Do u ever take a look at other artist work? If u think this is an act of stealing then this is nothing, well it's just an idea. Go around take a look at some animation artist works, I'm sure they stole each other art style too
what I'm telling u is even the designer of Mass Effect did rip off (or stole, u might call) some ideas and designs in Star Wars universe and a few unpopular space opera to their game, it's very obliviously.
also what wrong with putting the nostril on top of the head is a copied idea?? You haven't seen enough sci-fi art yet!
There's a difference between inspiration and art. I love your Elgok species, which I can see was inspired by star wars and avatar. Taking an idea and changing 3 features though is not really inspiration. I do draw, that has nothing to do with this so I don't really see why you are bringing it up. I have seen enough sci-fi art. I'm saying the nostril is directly copied from a species which I'm saying your art piece is a copy of. Don't pull my sentences apart and make it sound as if I'm saying you aren't allowed to do that because another person did. The designers of Mass Effect did not steal, they were inspired, please learn the difference. The definition for inspired is "Of extraordinary quality, as if arising from some external creative impulse." and the definition for stealing is "Taking (another person's property) without permission or legal right and without intending to return it." And also... have you not seen my watches/ favourites;Of course I look at other artists...And I'm currently getting a bachelors degree in animation so I think I do know what other animator's work looks like. Good day.
I didn't said the designer of Mass Effect stole the idea from SW, but to some people they will call it "copy","rip off", "stolen" or nicer words like referencing, or inspired by, just the way they see it
Copy is you're either tracing an image from line for line, detail for detail, make it look exactly/similar like the original and claim it at your own, worse is you then make a profit out of it without the owner permission. I do not copy the exact same thing from ME, I was inspired by the design of the Salarian then I combine it with my own idea and inspiration from other thing. There seems to be a very fine line between "being inspired by" and copying, to me inspired is you take the very general idea of something, not every-single thing. When I created this alien I know it will resemble the Salarian to a lot of people. A lot of the time I use other artist artwork as inspiration/general idea for my art and then I put my own spin on it, or I just come up with my own ideas, I'm not taking the whole thing from head to toe, that's copying.
And what with the head-nostril thing, copy from where? Putting the nostril on top of the head is somewhat common in creature design. This, I don't get it.
