the alien is a Fentarus - my original species. They are a race of sentient amphibians. Their distinctive features included colorful skin pattern and marking, which varied in pigment from individual to individual
I can see why everyone says you're ripping of the Salarians, and at first I did too, but then I looked at some of your other work and saw that this specific character just happens to look like them. You have a race that you've created, and this perticular guy has facial features similar to Salarians. I think you could reduce the flak you're getting by explaining it in that way in your description. i.e.; "the alien is a Fentarus - my original species. They are a race of sentient amphibians. Their distinctive features included colorful skin pattern and marking, which varied in pigment from individual to individual. I drew inspiration from the Salarian race from the Mass Effect series for this perticular person." Just a thought. GJ btw.
I love how a lot of people kept saying it's exactly like salarians when this is something different. When I first saw this I thought, I could totally see this as Salarians evolved 1000s of years from now. I absolutely love these guys and wished they were in the Mass Effect universe instead of the salarians.
I really love the design of this species. Even if it looks somewhat like a Salarian, the eyes are much smaller and the head shape is not as thin. And the nostrils situated high on the head is actually very common for aquatic/semi-aquatic designs. And since the Fentarus is an amphibian, then the high nostrils make a lot of sense. Congratulations on the great design!
Who did a bunch of movies stole the idea from when depicting tall or small big headed, big eyed aliens?
Ideas are bound to be reused in different projects. From my understanding, this is supposed to also be a revamp of ME, since a lot of community members were dissatisfied with hoe things turned out in the franchise. If they are breaking some copyright stuff, they will get notified, you don't have to worry.
Um dude this argument was a while back, both I and the creator are very much over it so you can get over it too You don't have to tell me to not worry about copy right infringement, cuz I didn't give two shits about it when the argument took place and I don't now. Read the dates next time kay?
I don't care even if its a decade old comment. Your response was silly and out of place.
I only saw this a few hours ago, and felt I should respond (and did). When you are "over" something, you usually don't engage in it again, you simply ignore it, like a person who really is 'over it', does.
Ok man Not really in the mood for your condescending comments. It was my opinion, I have the right to one. I couldn't really care if you felt you wanted to respond and I'm not going to argue with some stranger about whether or not I'm over something.
Well, when you post an opinion, you leave yourself open to such comments (another opinion), like mine. Perhaps if you are not "in the mood" you should keep the opinion to yourself next time. Have a nice day.
well, rip-off, art thief, or inspired...u can call it whatever u want but thing like this happen mos of the time to amateur artist like me and many others. Actually,do u ever draw? Do u ever take a look at other artist work? If u think this is an act of stealing then this is nothing, well it's just an idea. Go around take a look at some animation artist works, I'm sure they stole each other art style too
what I'm telling u is even the designer of Mass Effect did rip off (or stole, u might call) some ideas and designs in Star Wars universe and a few unpopular space opera to their game, it's very obliviously.
also what wrong with putting the nostril on top of the head is a copied idea?? You haven't seen enough sci-fi art yet!
There's a difference between inspiration and art. I love your Elgok species, which I can see was inspired by star wars and avatar. Taking an idea and changing 3 features though is not really inspiration. I do draw, that has nothing to do with this so I don't really see why you are bringing it up. I have seen enough sci-fi art. I'm saying the nostril is directly copied from a species which I'm saying your art piece is a copy of. Don't pull my sentences apart and make it sound as if I'm saying you aren't allowed to do that because another person did. The designers of Mass Effect did not steal, they were inspired, please learn the difference. The definition for inspired is "Of extraordinary quality, as if arising from some external creative impulse." and the definition for stealing is "Taking (another person's property) without permission or legal right and without intending to return it." And also... have you not seen my watches/ favourites;Of course I look at other artists...And I'm currently getting a bachelors degree in animation so I think I do know what other animator's work looks like. Good day.
I didn't said the designer of Mass Effect stole the idea from SW, but to some people they will call it "copy","rip off", "stolen" or nicer words like referencing, or inspired by, just the way they see it
Copy is you're either tracing an image from line for line, detail for detail, make it look exactly/similar like the original and claim it at your own, worse is you then make a profit out of it without the owner permission. I do not copy the exact same thing from ME, I was inspired by the design of the Salarian then I combine it with my own idea and inspiration from other thing. There seems to be a very fine line between "being inspired by" and copying, to me inspired is you take the very general idea of something, not every-single thing. When I created this alien I know it will resemble the Salarian to a lot of people. A lot of the time I use other artist artwork as inspiration/general idea for my art and then I put my own spin on it, or I just come up with my own ideas, I'm not taking the whole thing from head to toe, that's copying.
And what with the head-nostril thing, copy from where? Putting the nostril on top of the head is somewhat common in creature design. This, I don't get it.
I love that you put his nose in his forehead, it just makes it so much more 'alien'. Love the colours as well, now I just want to see the rest of it; what other adaptations does it have for amphibian life?
you mean this is a rip off or am I a stealer ? Well, Mass Effect had rip off design from Star Wars as well, such as the Ravager is actually a Droideka without the arms, Krogan are Besalis from SW... and I find it interesting
I mean it's a rip-off. Not that you necessarily stole. I can buy the ravager-droideka comparison, but the only real similarity between a besalisk and a krogan is the head. But this taken almost line-for-line from salarians below the eyes. I actually thought it was a salarian before I looked at the head crest.
